I try and make homemade gifts when I can. There is something more meaningful about them and they can be so fun to make. Last year, I came across some adorable little glass jars from Michaels that I couldn’t pass up. I researched various sugar scrub’s on Pinterest and eventually settled on a pretty mint green peppermint one that was perfect for the season.

Supplies:

  • Coconut Oil, or oil of choice
  • Sugar
  • Peppermint Extract
  • Green Food Coloring

The original instructions that I had called for 1/2 cup of oil per 1 1/2-2 cups sugar, 1 tablespoon peppermint extract, and 1 drop of green food coloring.

As I began mixing, I adjusted the portions to what I thought looked, felt, and smelled best! I used coconut oil and because of that, I ended up using more peppermint extract to mask the coconut scent. I also used an extra drop of the food coloring to get the color that I wanted. Make sure to use plenty of oil, or over time, the sugar will absorb it and the scrub will dry out.

Tie with string to dress it up!

Scoop into your chosen containers and share with your friends and family! They’ll appreciate using this lovely mixture to soothe dry hands, arms, legs, feet, and more. We keep a jar in our kitchen to use after washing dishes to help restore moisture in our hands. It works like a charm!

I also created jewelry trays, necklaces, and included a New Years Fortune in my gifts for my girlfriends!
